PAST EVENTS

Art in the Park - Friday 1st September

Steel City Sax palyed again for the 3rd year running at the Art in the Park preview night. Sheffield's Botanical Gardens again reverberated to the sounds of Steel City Sax as darkness fell.

Firth Park Festival - 25th June 2006

What a day to play!!. The festival was great until England kicked off which was the time we were due to play. You've never seen a park empty so quickly. We had a great time with our one audience member, he got his own private concert.

Switching on of Christmas Lights - Friday 2nd December 2005

Steel City Sax have been asked to play as part of the Christmas Celebrations in Firth Park, Sheffield. There were lots of different family events through out the afternoon and in to the evening. The highlight was Sophie nearly been knocked of the stage by David Blunkett's dog.

Derby - Rolls Royce Male Voice Choir - Saturday 26th November 2005

Steel City Sax have been asked to play as part of a concert organised by the Roll's Royce Male Voice Choir. The evening was filled with wonderful music. Steel City Sax particularly enjoyed HMS Pinafore  because they had to ware a silly sailors hat.

Rotary Club of Hallam - Saturday 10th September 2005

A representative of he Dore Male Voice Choir saw Steel City Sax's performance at the Art in the Gardens festival last year and decided they would like to share their charity concert at St John's, Ranmoor  with them.  SCSQ and DMVC took to the stage in turn and provided the full capacity audience with an eclectic mix of classical, popular and jazz music.     

Art in the Park - Sunday 4th September 2005

The 2nd Art in the Park was a great success. Again Steel City Sax were requested to perform to entertain the crowds as they browsed the wonderful art works. No Sophie's not playing a toy sax, it's her  new Hanson soprano. It sounded wonderful .Ellen's Husband wishes her baritone was so small and easy to carry.

Darnall Festival - Saturday 6th August 2005

Darnall Festival hosted a world music day in High Hazels Park, Darnall. Fun was had by all with the various different events and stands.

 

Grafton, North Yorkshire - Sunday 5th June 2005

Grafton held a World Music which Steel City Sax were proud to be part of. The entire village came to see all  the different events and of course listen to the wonderful music.

Sheffield City Centre - Saturday 18th December

Following the success of the recent summer events in the City centre, Steel City Sax were asked to play to add some festive music to entertain the shoppers. Despite Ellen's freshly broken heel the sound of Steel City Sax filled the Winter Gardens.

Sheffield City Centre - Saturday 4th December

On a grey day the Christmas Shoppers were brightened up with Steel City Sax's Jazzed up Christmas tunes.  An enjoyable Christmas mood was in the air as Steel City Sax had them dancing around the Christmas tree.

Later in the day it was time for a second set in the almost tropical surroundings of Sheffield's excellent Winter Gardens.

 Fruits of the Earth Festival, Darley Dale - Saturday 2nd October

A very successful afternoon was had by all involved, Steel City Sax enjoyed an appreciative audience and came home with some bargains. £450 was raised for the children of Africa.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens - Friday 3rd September evening &  Saturday 4th

The first annual "Art in the Gardens" was a excellent event. Friday evening was warm and bright. The Botanical Gardens were looking fabulous and of course the sounds of Steel City Sax made the whole thing go with a swing.

Ruskin's Tudor Square, Sheffield - Saturday 21st August

Steel City Sax were invited to play as part of the summer events taking place in Sheffield. In the morning they played to entertain the shoppers on Fargate, and were even joined by a Dixie Band for a rousing version of Ain't Misbehavin'.

In the afternoon the quartet joined the rock bands in Tudor square and played to a large audience enjoying the BBQ's and beer in the sunshine.

The icing on the cake was a prominent photo in Sheffield Star Newspaper citing Steel City Sax as one of the most popular acts of the day.

 

Ashbourne Arts Festival - Saturday 19th June

The Derbyshire town of Ashbourne hosted it's annual Arts festival. Steel City Sax were part of the festivities and played outside the entrance to the Town Hall.

Despite the somewhat damp weather a good time was had by all and nobody drowned.

Steel City Sax kept passers-by of all ages entertained and jazzed up an otherwise grey day.

 

 

Chesterfield Music Festival - 6th, 7th 8th May - The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield

Steel City Sax played in the Open Instrumental Ensemble at the Chesterfield Festival. They played Strauss' Perpetuum Mobile and Gershwin's Summertime to a mixed audience. On the night outright victory was missed by the narrow margin of 1 point, however Steel City Sax were highly commended by the Judges.
